여느 파티와 마찬가지로 처음엔 조용했다. 그 다음 모두 수다스러워졌다. 그 다음엔 토론이 이어졌다. 그리고 논쟁. 그 다음엔 알 수 없는 말들을 지껄였다. 그리곤 모두 함께 어울렸다. 그 다음 혀가 꼬였다. 그리고 모두 취해버렸다. 우리가 이 유쾌한 사다리의 마지막 칸에 이르렀을 때 비틀거리지 않고 다시 아래로 내려가기란 힘든 일이었다.
